Texas Criminal Defense Lawyer

For over twenty (20) years I have been proud to represent people accused of crime. My office is located in Alvin, Brazoria County, Texas. I have successfully defended clients charged with DWI (driving while intoxicated), DUI, misdemeanors, felonies, and with violations of parole and probation in administrative proceedings. My practice focuses on criminal defense

The National Trial LawyersDominic J. Merino, Texas Criminal Defense Lawyer

After over 20 years of defending citizens accused of crime, including many jury trials, my reputation is that of a fierce opponent working tirelessly to minimize the consequences on my clients lives, and have been quite successful in that endeavor. However, I no longer list my best verdicts or the dismissals that I have obtained because I have come to believe that while it may impress potential clients, it definitely irritates the prosecutors. (Oh yes, they read this stuff).

Dismissals and favorable verdicts come with the territory for any good criminal-defense attorney, and I can provide you with plenty of both. However, based on my experience listing those outcomes here may not only rankle your prosecutor, it is also somewhat unfair; to wit: sometimes a case is dismissed by the prosecutor because it is the right thing to do, or because the person has no history; not necessarily because it was not a viable case. In that situation, to list it on your website like a scalp of sorts is misleading and potentially infuriating to that prosecutors office. Worse, if you do that and the prosecutors know you do that, it will negatively affect every future plea negotiation. As for verdicts I have some real impressive ones, but listing them not only may upset the (your?) prosecutor on a given case, it needlessly highlights an outcome that while favorable, may not have been advisable – while rubbing the prosecutions nose in it, all of which can be very damaging.

Because I feel a defense attorney should practice in places where he knows the judges, prosecutors, and potential jurors, I limit my practice to Brazoria County, where my office is, and Galveston County, where I reside. I know the judges, court personnel, prosecutors, and jury pools very well in both of those counties.

I believe the American system of justice is not perfect, but it is still the best in the world IF THE DEFENSE LAWYER DOES HIS OR HER JOB. I ALWAYS do my job. I am dedicated to minimizing the consequences of your legal problem.

My fees are reasonable and payment plans are available. In addition, I accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover cards.
